CHARM

"Comprehensive Human Animation Resource Model, European ESPRIT project"

Period: November 1993 - November 1996
Type: European Research
Status: Completed
Website: ligwww.epfl.ch/~maurel/CHARM/Home_Page/Home_Page.html

Overview

CHARM consists of modeling a 3D solid human body part with its interior details and having physically based simulation of movements and deformations. Modeling and simulations are validated with the actual medical data.

MIRALab's contribution

The activities for which MIRAlab is particularly responsible include: topological modeling of a body part, fitting to the medical images/data. A 3D topological modeler is developed with which anatomists and other users can create a topological database containing structural, topological, and mechanical information of anatomical elements e.g., bone, muscles, ligaments, articulations, etc. Bones are often used as referential elements to establish the spatial links of different elements. In addition to the tools for visualization and 3D display of elements, convivial interface is designed to enable 3D surface reconstruction, and topological modeling of different elements.
