MIAS – “Minimally Invasive Articular Surgery.”

MIAS – “Minimally Invasive Articular Surgery.”

Period: July 1996 - June 1999 Type: European Research Status: Completed

Overview

MIAS aims to develop new minimally invasive technologies for orthopedic surgical procedure and to introduce new technologies in arthroscopy in order to enhance the quality of the care that the surgeon delivers to the patient.

This system will be able to process and display multidimensional data (image, forces, planned procedures”, and to offer the performance of micromechatronic tools in order to enable the surgeon to plan and execute minimally invasive procedures to human joints that are not possible with presently available technology, and to execute traditional interventions with high degree of accuracy and safety for the patient.

MIRALab’s contribution

MIRALab’s main activities are related in building a 3D Graphics and Image Processing System. These will include reconstruction using multi modal image input and development of an interface for simulator and visualization of simulation.
