ERENA – “Electronic aRENAs for culture, performance, art and entertainment”

Period: November 1997 - September 2000 Type: European Research Status: Completed

Overview

eRENA is focused on inhabited information spaces to support new forms of cultural experiment spanning arts, performance and entertainment. eRENA will involve long term research into a range of spatial technologies, especially multi-user virtual environments, coupled to new forms of artistic content and an understanding of social interaction.

The problems to be addressed include representation of different human participants at appropriate level of detail; supporting the representation and behavior of different kinds of agents; and supporting the representation, behavior and management of collective humans and agents (developing aggregation techniques for representing crowds).

MIRALab’s contribution

MIRALab is involved in the representation and behavior of the participants in electronic arenas. Participants may be humans or agents (e.g., virtual actors) and might participate in different ways (e.g., as performer, artists, producer, and audience members).
