Semantics over Geometry: Garmented Body Model Generation for Real-time Simulation

Abstract: In the virtual environment, an object has several properties which include sensory appearance such as shapes and semantics such as relation with other objects. For the virtual human, several properties related to anima-tion falls into this category of semantics. In this paper, a new method is proposed to fuse two different shapes with two different semantics which is body skinning parameters and cloth animation parameters. Fused object can be manipulated and simulated in more efficient way due to its reduced geometrical and semantic complex-ity. With a body model and a draped garment model, our method generates a unified garmented body model having a mesh, a single texture and skinning weights according to given mesh and texture resolutions. The unified model can be constructed by using the correspondence between the body and the garment meshes. To establish the correspondence, an optimization method is proposed to fit the body onto the garment.
